An elegant Ted Brewer designSteel hulled, Ted Brewer designed world cruiser. This hull of this custom boat was built in 1981 and she was launched in 1984. Her sailing characteristics are excellent. She sails fast in heavy weather and yet well in light airs. She is not too tender, as you often find in steel boats with steel decks and deck houses. This is a well proven design. Sisterships have sailed around the world via the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Horn. Others have crossed oceans many times. Ted got the numbers right this time.

The interior is not a production style interior, but was designed by the original owner for him and his wife to sail across oceans. The headroom is 6'7" from the companionway to the forward berth. The forward stateroom has a double berth to port. The salon has a settee and pilot berth to starboard and a settee berth to port. All of the berths in the salon make excellent sea berths. The stand up nav station can take a full chart on the working surface and a couple of hundred charts under the lid. There is no quarterberth with that area being used for storage. Dickinson cabin heater, barometer, all new 4" foam cushions in 1989, new holding tank in 1994, new water heater and pressure water system (with shower) all new in 1995. Manual and pressure water system, manual and electric bilge pumps. New microwave 1995.

The deck and cabin are steel, welded to the hull when she was built, painted as the hull is, inside and out and insulated with foam. There are not any leaks and no condensation forms anywhere, even though the current owner keeps her in the water twelve months a year in a northern climate. The mast is a single spreader heavy gauge aluminum type and it's dimensions are as was recommended by Ted Brewer for ocean cruising. The rigging consists of uppers, then intermediates (to provide support for the inner forestay - there are no running backstays) and two lowers, all 5/16 wire with toggles. There are two forestays with toggles top and bottom and two full backstays, all 5/16 wire as well. The mast is very well stayed and it sits on a very strong stainless step which protrudes into the mast (all very securely made in the factory). All the standing rigging was replaced in 1990 with new wire and Sta-lock fittings.

The hull and deck material are mild steel. The exterior sandblasted to hwhite metal then zinc sprayed and painted with two-part expoxy paint. Interior was also sandblasted to white metal and painted with coal tar epoxy paint, then sprayed with 2" of foam down to the waterline. Hull and deck were originally painted with two part Awlgrip, and repainted in 1989 and again last year after a winter haulout. The boat was designed and built for a salt water enviroment. There is no rust anywhere. The port lights were installed by the first owner have built-in stainless bracket to handle lexan storm shutters.

The chine is one developed by Brewer for steel construction and is called radius chine, as it turns out to be soft where the chines would be. The underbody has the Brewer Bite with a long fin keel and skeg. The boat was built by Huromic Metal of Goderich, Ontario. The welding is to the highest standards. The factory completed the following: the hull, decks and cabin were finished inside and out and then the inside was sprayed with insulation on both cabin and hull sides down to the waterline. The factory also installed the dorades, cut outs for the ports, forward hatch, main cabin hatch, the lazarette hatch, the cockpit drains, very high grade stainless seacocks (all work perfectly) and the fairleads with stainless liners welded in (so if the paint rubs through you will not get stains). The stanchion bases were welded on, the ballast and engine beds were factory installed, as well as the mast step and the compression post. Welded steel factory cradle.
